Howard’s practice involves
insurance litigation with an emphasis on environmental
claims, coverage disputes, class actions and personal
injury claims. He served as in-house counsel to the
Environmental Compensation Corporation, reporting to the
Minister of the Environment. He was also counsel to the
Ontario Claims Board, responding to claims from the
Hagersville tire fire, one of Ontario’s most serious
pollution incidents. He’s the author of the text
Environmental Harm: Civil Actions and Compensation and
numerous articles, and has delivered many addresses on
topics relating to environmental and insurance claims.
Howard is a member of the Defence Research Institute,
the Canadian Environmental Law Association, The Ontario
Environment Industry Association, The Advocates’ Society
and the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations.
