In 1998, John was one of the three partners who founded Forbes Chochla LLP. Previously, he was a partner with Brown, Forbes Chochla, Burnes and Aikins for nine years.

John graduated from the University Of Toronto Faculty Of Law in 1982 and was called to the Ontario bar in 1984. He is a member of The Advocates' Society the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations, the Toronto Lawyers? Association, the Medico-Legal Society and the Canadian Defence Lawyers' Association.

John is the Past Chair of the Insurance Law section of the Ontario Bar Association. He served on the Insurance Section executive from 2006 to 2008 and was Chair from 2008 to 2010.

He continues to serve on the Insurance Section executive as past Chair and also sits as a member of Council for the OBA.

John specializes in the defence of claims involving municipalities (building inspectors, police officers) and contractors, and has more than 26 years experience defending professionals and quasi-professionals in errors and omission matters, including engineers, paralegals, insurance adjusters, private ambulance services, architectural and engineering technologists, and health clinics.

John has extensive expertise in catastrophic injury cases, property and casualty claims, accident benefit claims, and loss transfer cases. He has conducted dozens of jury and non-jury trials throughout the province, he has appeared at the Court of Appeal, conducted private arbitrations and appeared at arbitrations at the Financial Services Commission, and hearings at the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, the Drainage Tribunal, and the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board.

John has presented papers and been a guest speaker at a variety of conferences for the OBA and the Toronto Lawyers' Association. He has given in-house seminars for insurance clients and municipalities, including building departments.

John has four wonderful children and he has been active in their school associations and sporting teams. He is an active supporter of Covenant House, the North York and East York General Hospitals.

In 2010 he served as President of the Board of Directors of the Summit Golf and Country Club, Ltd.
